NOTTINGHAM craft beer boutique Brew Cavern is celebrating six months of success since entrepreneur Matthew Hinton launched the business.

Since opening his doors to thirsty drinkers in October 2014 Brew Cavern has sold over 14,000 beers from its store based in Nottingham’s Flying Horse Walk.

Matthew Hinton, founder and owner of Brew Cavern said the first six months of trading had exceeded his expectations and he felt Brew Cavern had brought something new and fresh to the Nottingham food and drink scene.

He said: “We opened the moment we got the keys, with just enough time for us to make the most of the Christmas rush.

“Getting the store open and ready for the festive season was a key aim of ours and was something that really helped us to gain an immediate presence in the city and in the minds of potential customers.”

Selling craft beers from across the UK and Europe, Matthew wanted to add something new to the beer market that was not readily available in supermarkets or an average pub.

He added: “There is a lot of demand for interesting beers – not just from those in the know, but also from people just wanting something a little different.

“We seem to have been really welcomed into the city by connoisseurs and we hope to solidify our position as a place for good beer.”

The business venture was made possible thanks to a starter loan of £15,000 from First Enterprise Business Agency.

Based in Hyson Green but serving the entire East Midlands, First Enterprise is a not for profit organisation providing loans and free business advice to start-ups and existing businesses from all backgrounds and sectors.

The loan gave Matthew the means to open on the high street, buy stock and take on an assistant to help run the store. In the six months since opening, Brew Cavern has made over £50,000 in revenue.

Qammar Zamman, chief executive of First Enterprise Business Agency, said: “Brew Cavern has taken advantage of a need for a range of beer and ale products in the market and is unique in that it is stocking speciality beers from around the globe.

“We are pleased to see them celebrating their six month milestone and continuing to grow. We would encourage other start-ups to follow in their footsteps and take advantage of our loan funding streams – no matter how big or small your business.”

Matthew has plans to grow Brew Cavern further over the next six months, establishing the company as the go to place for beer in Nottingham.
