Show your support for all the great independents in Flying Horse Walk by nominating your favourite in the annual it’s in Nottingham Best Independent of the Year competition.

There are two categories in the competition this year: Retail & Services and Eating, Drinking & Things To Do.  People can nominate their favourite independent now and until midnight on Friday 15 July in a variety of ways: online at itsinnottingham.com/independents; by emailing info@nottinghambid.com; via Twitter to @itsinnottingham; by tagging @itsinnottingham on Facebook or by using the hashtag #independentnottm on Instagram.

The five businesses in each category with the highest number of nominations will be visited by mystery shoppers who will rate them on various criteria including staff friendliness, customer service, product range, knowledge and individuality. They will then report their findings to an expert judging panel who will choose Nottingham’s Independent Business of the Year 2016 and two highly commended businesses.

The arcade is home to 11 independent businesses and we would love you to nominate your favourite.  Here is a short guide to our independents :

Apalts, the apparel fittings & alterations company. The store fits and alters clothing garments to suit a person's unique body shape.

Brew Cavern is an independent craft beer bottle shop stocking a range of local, national & international craft beers, bottle conditioned real ales & ciders.

Brik is an iconic Nottingham barbers shop, with premises in Byard Lane as well as at the Flying Horse Walk.

Cathy Stephens Designer Jewellery has been trading in Nottingham for over 30 years, and in The FH Mall since 1989.

The Cheese Shop Nottingham is dedicated to supplying the best local, national and international produce available on the market.

'George Thornton Art' is a Nottingham-based art gallery exhibiting and selling affordable, contemporary works by exceptional local talent and international modern masters.

Gigi Bottega is a boutique offering luxury designer goods.

After 10 years exhibiting nationally and internationally, local artist Jill Perry has opened her very first shop, and it is truly Inspired.

Jolie Lingerie is a specialist independent lingerie boutique with an extensive range of brands in cup sizes A-K, band size 28-48. Brands stocked include Prima Donna, Marie Jo, Aubade, Anita, Empreinte, Gottex, Fantasie and Freya.

Pearl Boutique has a large unique collection of prom dresses, evening wear, ball gowns, bridesmaid dresses and bridal wear.

200 degrees is an independent coffee shop based in Nottingham city centre offering unique blends that have been developed and roasted specially for its customers at its roasting house by Trent Bridge.
